Durable medical equipment (DME) is medical equipment that a doctor has prescribed for use in the home, such as a wheelchair or oxygen therapy. We make sure your child’s medical equipment is working properly and that you can safely use and maintain it. We provide the following:
- Proper Use of Medications – We show you how and when to give your child medications.
- Medical Equipment Support – We make sure equipment is delivered on time and that it works properly. We also check to see that the equipment serves your child’s needs.
- Family Training – We educate and train you and the entire family on safe use of medications, equipment, and overall medical care.
If you are a family member of a child who uses these services and have questions, contact the Department of Family and Community Development at 202-580-6485.
